fic commentary: your heart be-beep!

stoplightanother low effort fic? it's more likely than you think...
randomly joined this exchange fest because i got nostalgic and sentimental about the golden age of nct fic/fandom events in 2020 - 2022ish. anyways i came to regret that decision very quickly but didn’t pull out because… uh…….. i was lazy. after i got my assignment i was kind of stumped because i didn’t really like any of the prompts that my recipient had offered. but the good news was that one of their “prompts” was to just finish any existing WIP! except all my existing WIPs were for chenle/jisung and considering that they’d requested jaemin/jeno, jaemin/renjun, or jaemin/jisung i was like okay….. if i’m not even going to write one of their prompts then i should at least give them a pairing that they like. and clearly they like jaemin so i just picked a pairing of his that i hadn’t written before.
at first i started writing this PR stunt au off of an old prompt that shida and i have discussed at length (and which she kindly let me co-opt for nct) but i only wrote like 3k before i realized that it was becoming much much longer than i’d initially intended it to be and so i gave up and switched gears as soon as i could.
chatfic/social media AUs have alwayssssss been my guilty pleasure i truly have read so many. including filo ones because i just like them that much. no i don’t understand what i’m reading yes i’m still reading it anyways. when you’re desperate for content you’ll do anything. anyways so i immediately was like okay… let me just write this simple silly social media AU. except my caveat was that i wanted the fic to be entirely done through social media/texting, with no prose at all. obviously this is a little tricky to do on ao3 because you don’t really have any visual elements like twitter does unless you mess with work skins (i mean you can also just insert images in ao3. but then at that point it’s like well twitter would probably be easier… and this event necessitated my writing on ao3), but i think having variety in the platforms being used helped.
also it required a lot of thinking of like what’s enough of a “gap” that i can leave for people to understand what happened outside of the “script” so to speak. because i didn’t want to get expositional with TEXTING of all things. i did my best to make it sound like real actual conversations that people would have, and that they spoke distinctively through texting style/vocabulary/etc.
all this is to say: i had fun! i definitely committed some pretty heinous he-would-not-fucking-say-that characterization crimes and also majorly rushed towards the end because i was starting to get bored but i don’t even careeeeeee this thing is not that serious.
anyways i WILL come back to finish writing the PR stunt au. here’s an excerpt:

FS Entertainment and DROP have released a joint statement that their artists, Haechan (real name Lee Donghyuck, 24) and Mark (real name Lee Minhyung, 25) were involved in a minor car accident on July 30th. According to procedure the two were immediately rushed to the hospital, where a thorough medical examination was conducted. Thankfully, neither suffered any serious injuries.
The labels explained,
“While traveling together in Jejudo on holiday, the two were involved in a minor car accident. On the way back to their hotel, Haechan’s personal vehicle experienced a collision from behind with another driver. The two were immediately sent to the hospital, where no serious injuries were revealed, but medical professionals have advised that they prioritize rest and recovery for the time being.”
