the initial reactions to the show have been so fascinating... i remember in one interview jacob tierney was like i'm not too worried about marketing the story to men because gay men will literally watch anything and i was like ok wow what a condescending bitch, speak for yourself, but now every time i open twitter i am immediately hit with a 4k gif from a twitter gay who can't shut up about cstorrie's ass. like Okay Fair

also i feel like... yes people have no couth and we should be classy about this sort of thing and i genuinely don't care if a straight man wants to cosplay omega bottom, but also i roll my eyes when everyone is like omgggg don't turn this into a kit connor situation when anyone gets even a tiny bit nosy with it because like poor kit was a little 18 year old baby on a cutesy ya show when he was forced to come out while connor is a 25 year old man with an extensive gay digital footprint who couldn't be faggier if he tried. and THAT'S FINE! it's a beautiful thing to be an alternative LA bottom terrorizing grindr and taking on gay sports roles! why does it need to be a thing. #letmenbegay #letusacknowledgegaymen

i really do think their personal archetypes are sooo funny because they're almost parodies of themselves. hudson is just a run-of-the-mill pretentious artsy korean-canadian straight raver theater kid from van, which i think is rather funny even if his friendship with connor is ultimately quite sweet. the fuckass fujo layers of being his gf and doing matching sex sells tattoos on his and his gay co-star's thighs... lmfao. meanwhile connor is like, the funniest gay boy to ever exist, he's just classic socal gbf who clearly romanticizes non-american culture sooo badly because he thinks being from texas is kind of stale and boring and he wants to experience Haute Classe european debauchery. i like that they clearly are comfortable with each other and with intimacy in general and it is endearing that hudson is all like Connor is a sensitive baby flower and if you're not nice to him i will kill you

anyway, my assessment is that ultimately i do quite enjoy their performances and their overall casting in the show. i think connor especially knocks it out of the park and is clearly the stronger actor between the two of them, which Is What It Is, in terms of line delivery/effortless body language and also obviously accent work, not that hudson really had to work with anything there. my gripe with hudson is that i do feel like his delivery falls flat at times EVEN with the consideration that shane is supposed to be awkward, repressed, neurotic, autistic etc. but i don't even know how much is through his own interpretation and how much is explicitly directed by jacob, because they've joked about jacob always telling him to change things in the bts and it's kind of like hmmm well ok. like wait i actually do want to see what a nervous tic would have looked like on shane bring on the bloopers so i can analyze LOL.

what i will say is hudson has some very strong microexpression work and that it helps that their chemistry is fairly solid. he's great at surfacing shane's internal turmoil which obviously we lack direct access to in a narration-less show. and sometimes the stilted delivery Does work in a very like ohhh okay so there's a weird 22 year old canadian here, but sometimes i don't think it hits the mark he's aiming for. not that big of a deal though. also it is funny that people are like why does the show have so many d/s overtones but if you crossref the dialogue in the book it's the same... you're just bewitched by shane's omega eyes and das ok.

the pacing especially with only having 2 episodes out right now does suffer because of how fleeting their encounters are in the first half of the book, although obviously this will inevitably slow down now that we're reaching the core emotional development of their relationship, and i have high hopes for ep5-6 and will be sharing strong words if my expectations are not met... again mostly i am enjoying myself within the extent of the clear, slightly-low expectations i set for the show from the get go. also i think jt did shoehorn the racial aspect a little bit but i respect that like, this is in the context of late 2000s mtl media, and that ultimately making yuna a bit of an overbearing momager does help flesh out his relationship with his family more.

it is quite interesting that he cut out the early year hookups and repurposed a lot of dialogue differently to lend more weight to their first time in the mtl apartment. i did love the back-and-forth of the sexting scene and the way they demonstrated ilya's affection for shane's earnestness and that they're clearly building up ilya's rapport with marlow as his best friend on the team so that the concussion scene has more weight. jt is also playing a lot more with them getting Clocked by their friends/acquaintances (scott + svetlana) and i'm curious to see whether that awareness bleeds into scott's episode or if it'll just be the straightforward skip storyline interspersed between hollanov moments (or no hollanov at all? also possible).

current timeline

episode 1 - part 1, starts in 2008 and ends with 2011 awards, except they don't have their first time in the initial mtl hotel hookup
episode 2 - part 2, starts in late 2013 and ends with ilya winning the cup and 2014 awards

part 3 is the longest in the book so i wonder how much time will be devoted to it. the problem is that scott's storyline begins in 2017, but tuna melt/ilya's penthouse scene is at the beginning of part 3 and takes place in 2016 and will most likely be in episode 4 going off promo... so idk how they're going to do this.

predictions ???

episode 3 - probably straightforward skip episode with scott seeing kip at the gala, freaking da fuck out in da car, the sex scene in his apartment etc. (the remaining clips in the trailer). idk whether they're going to cliffhang on kip being frustrated with their relationship and then leave the cup scene for ep5 ending lmfao. i can see some scott & shane awareness stuff being woven in from how jt has set up scott's character but that could also just be because it was easier to use him as a stand-in in tv

episode 4 - part 3, late 2016 to early 2017, penthouse scene + meeting rose + club scene + florida asg + semi-confession + possible cliffhanger for ilya going home. they'll probably put in more solo scenes of family stuff with ilya to drive home his father's illness and the pressure he's under

episode 5 - rest of part 3, early 2017 to summer 2017, ilya in russia, calling shane and confessing to him under the bridge (clip from the trailer), skype sex, marlow hit + concussion/hospital scene, cottage Negotiations and scott coming out

* actually the asg stills are from EPISODE 5 what the hell. how are they going to fit everything into one episode 😭 i think the theory i saw that they're going to change the catalyst for the cottage from the kiss to the hit might be right but also then it's like if you do that why did you do episode 3... what on earth

episode 6 - 100 million thousand Sexies at the cottage. loon scene. david walking in on them. ottawa. you know the rest

looking at it this way it seems pretty straightforward and i actually think there might not be any hollanov at all in ep3 other than ilya stirring shit in his game changer moments. hmmm. but it does seem like jt followed the book structure pretty closely and the timelines match up conveniently. also i hope they include the epilogue in episode 6 :') anyway we shall be observing and experiencing.

if you know anything about me you know that i love MIFFY and the color PURPLE! specifically light purple/lavender.

anyway i've been meaning to do a little wimb of my makeup stuff, and my sister recently obtained the new miffy pouch from hema while she was in europe for me so i'm thinking of finally letting go of my beloved rilakkuma makeup pouch that has served me for 2 years... but i still want to use it so i'm trying to think of how to organize my things and maybe i should keep one pouch for like hair accessories or other items? or have a strictly travel pouch so that i can keep it packed at all times... idk.

this is a pretty simple breakdown because i don't use eye makeup (i have very sensitive eyes that are prone to styes), so my daily routine is literally just brows + lips + cheeks LOL. i also mainly use 4 brands: glossier, canmake, benefit, and rom&nd... anyway here is the list.

✶ base & skin ✶
1. canmake mermaid skin gel uv MINT (¥770 / $5): i got a bunch of these when i was in japan/make my family get a bunch if any of them go to japan because i hate paying usa import tax when i buy jp products... i really love this sunscreen and i especially love the green one because i'm cool-toned but get red flareups and this helps even out my tone a lot!

2. rare beauty liquid touch brightening concealer 150C ($24): idk that this is that amazing but i tried this once and liked it and have just been using it since. i don't use that much concealer/base foundation, i just dab a bit on my redder areas and blend it out with my fingers and hope for the best LOL. i don't wear that much makeup in general so it does the trick

3. canmake marshmallow finish powder #01 (¥1034 / $7): i don't really get what the "brightening" effect is but it's a cute tin and it works fine as a setting powder. i don't use this much since i barely put on concealer but it's useful to have!!! the colors in the tin have gotten all blended up though 😭

4. kosé make keep mist ex limited moomin lavender version ? ($??): this is my setting spray that i bought in japan entirely because it's purple and has moomin on it. again since i don't wear makeup that much i still have some left after 2 years lol is that ok how long is setting spray supposed to last... anyway i will probably just keep using this bottle and clean it out and put other liquid in it after i finish it 😭

✶ brows ✶
1. benefit goof proof brow pencil in 4.5 (brown) ($28): she's served me well over the years... i've tried other brow products but this is the only one i'm really comfortable with. i have very sparse brows so i fill out my ends with this as the base

2. glossier boy brow in brown ($22): this one is optional but if i'm feeling crazayyyy i'll use this to spruce things up lol. but i can't be giving glossier money like that so i don't use it too much

✶ lips & cheeks ✶
1. benefit benetint cheek & lip stain raspberry ($28): can't get over when i had to go to sephora to refill this and i asked one of the workers there "does this exist but like... cheaper?" and she looked at me with so much disdain and went Ummmm i don't think it gets much cheaper than this. ok guess i'll KILL MYSELFFFFF. god forbid a woman want a stain for less than 28 dollars 😭😭😭 i do really enjoy this product though, i use it on my lips as the base stain and then dot some on my cheeks for my blush before i apply my rom&nd products and it does the trick!

2. rom&nd stuff: i have a bunchhhh of rom&nd lip products lol but the ones i keep on rotation in my makeup bag are dewyful water tint (#14 peach mocha) and juicy lasting tint (#28 bare fig). all the fig ones are like my holy grail because they're very mlbb for me so i like them a lot. i have fig fig somewhere but i don't know which bag i've accidentally stashed it away in 🥲

3. colorgram fruity glass tint #7: i just got this at a random makeup store so i don't remember how much it cost but i find the packaging really cute LOL. i was torn between this one and #9 (heartful mulberry) but they were sold out of that one so i went for this... i love a lavender/pink combo 🥰

4. canmake stay-on balm rouge #09 (¥638 / $4): this is a nice little balm that i enjoy putting on over my lip products because it has a small tint but also feels moisturizing. not super necessary because i also have other balms but i do like it a lot! if i'm feeling super lazy and no-makeup makeup i'll just wear this on its own.

✶ other ✶
1. glossier you fleur 8ml perfume ($32): loveeee this perfume and i don't wear perfume in general but this is the one i use and i like it a lot. i also liked the original you when i tested them in store but i was split on them so i went with fleur because it's purple LMFAO.

2. various miffy bandages. you can never be too ready

3. glossier mini laptop mirror ($16): this shit is ridiculous but i love it LOL. i actually keep it in my crossbody bags not my makeup bag so i can use it on the go but it's so cute...

4. various hair claws 💗 again i keep this with my other bags but i wanted to display them. my 3 favs at the moment are artist cat that i recently got at a craft fair, stack of books, and my trusty croissant clip from sydney. hehe

anyway that is the list... as u can see i don't own that many products but i like my staple brands! i will have to consider what to do with my bag/organization situation.

- turned Old in september and spent some time visiting risa which was loads of fun :') got a few gifts and also bought myself a thing or two /)__(\... personal favs include moomin hat because i really needed a new hat and i love anything moomin ! + custom jellycat rubik's cube plushie oomf crocheted for me i honestly cried T__T + robo jersey courtesy of me directly linking it to my father so he knew what to get LOL. also accidentally swapped oscar pcs with risa when we were at a cafe but thankfully i'm seeing her again soon for svt so we will be reunited briefly <3 also i'll have you know that she took me to dave & busters for the first time and i set like all the daily high scores on the piano keys board!!! now convinced i could take oscar piastri down in a reflex game

- risa also made me download pikmin bloom which i am now obsessed with... everyone add me pleaseeeee. we've successfully converted arlene and frog and some others but it's never enough

- haven't really been watching movies properly lately ): but i eagerly watched the wild robot in theaters earlier and loved it so much... i love animation and i love found family narratives so you know i had no choice but to be obsessed

- life's been kind of rough in a weird limbo kind of way... constantly in the dark concerning my health and just frustrated about the whole thing but trying to not be too waylaid by it. i think i've been quite "burnt out" creatively in that everything i draw is just bad and i really want to work on things but i can never quite find the energy to do so... i have a few old doodles i want to finish + i want to make this interactive thing that requires art but it's all a little too much work for me atm. i need to get it together !

- but while i've been in fandom-burnout mode i have been playing a lot of Cozy Indie Games on steam which have been fun :') thinking about making a post later with in-depth reviews but we'll see... basically there's an asmrtist i'm subscribed to (jubileewhispers) who does a lot of asmr let's plays and she really likes this genre as well so through her i discovered a few games and i kind of just accidentally got sucked into playing them... also because oomf gave me some recs and i ended up trying some stuff that was really cheap/on sale. anyway the asmrtist i like has played a lot of a little to the left and i've kind of become obsessed with it !!! although i finished the main game and the cupboards dlc... also played minami lane, sticky business which i highly rec although i kind of stopped playing it after 13 hours... maybe i'll get back to it, carto which i'm not done with, garden galaxy, unpacking which i've been meaning to play for sooo long and really loved, and of course FIELDS OF MISTRIA!!! i've only played 11 hours but i really love it... stardew valley is already a really easy and "friendly" game so it sounds kind of dumb to call fields of mistria a friendlier stardew but it's kind of true... still haven't decided which bachelorette i want to marry though T__T

- shockingly after 9 million words i think i might be starting to hit the bottom of the barrel of available tw fic... what fandom should i terrorize next. actually speaking of fic i am determined to finish writing at least One (1) 814 fic before the year ends ;;___;; i'm just a flop these days

- been really enjoying my little nytimes games again (sans subscription), i'm not as obsessed with connections as i was during that crasy phase but i'm really enjoying strands these days so i play them all together !

- not sure how many stars games i'll be able to go to this season and a part of me really wants to travel to dallas again esp so i can see a mavs game as well t____t and it would be so fun to go to both with oomf... but traveling is kind of a big question mark right now especially if we manage to get ausgp tickets (crossing fingers) because that basically puts me out all of march. reallyreally hoping melb works out though! i don't want to get ahead of myself but i also want to start prepping a bakery list... it's serious.

TT___TT that's all for this meaningless update post... i am very sleepy and tired all the time!!! currently listening to new doechii album and it's pretty good. my top 5 (eta: sorry this is 6-7) for 2024 atm is probably imaginal disk/sky hundred + lives outgrown + wall of eyes + my light my destroyer + bright future + dark times but there's still much time to discover... also haven't rated my method actor yet!!! i don't think this year has been that amazing for music for me but still a lot i like.............. oh also need to make a stats post about k-pop later reminder2self

this is a mess i just need everything in one place. i have to stop terrorizing oomfs with my lesbian diver obsession
