my name is [bleep] girlrock and i am here to show you that this is the easiest part of writing social media fic!

of course there is beauty in doing simple formatting and it is far from necessary to use a work skin but it can be nice to know that the possibility is there.

1. work in blocks. tackle one website at a time. let's pretend you are only trying to code one website for your entire fic and little to no variation in ux is required. let's also pretend you're making tumblr. maybe the blog has multiple posts. first you must start with one post, perfect it, and then reuse the template for the rest afterward.

2. write the scene exactly as you wish for it to be seen without creator style on. this means any <b>, <i>, <u>, <a>, <blockquote> etc. tags. this will also make your life easier because you don't have to add them at the css level. if there's any kind of indentation, you can use blockquote as the base and then edit it to your liking. warning: default ao3 blockquote has a font-family declaration so you need to change the font back to your desired one in the css file.

3. now look at the site you're recreating and break it into levels. again, let's say you're recreating tumblr. <div class="tumblr"> can indiscriminately wrap everything you've written. <div class="tumblr-post"> can wrap each individual post. on a more molecular level, <div class="tumblr-info"> can wrap the username and time posted. <div class="tumblr-body"> can wrap the actual text/content of the post. <div class="tumblr-tags"> can wrap the tags. <span class="tumblr-tag"> can wrap each individual tag.

you don't actually have to cook up div soup and you can be much more refined and honorable about this process but ao3 has base styles and annoying paragraph margins and this will ensure that everything is a blank slate for you to play around with. so add these div/p/span/blockquote etc. whatever tags that you know you will expand on with css and then head to your work skin. for now nothing has actually been styled yet; you're just creating the skeleton for easy customization. have this ready and saved in your ao3 draft (but make sure all changes are being made in your gdoc/whatever writing editor).

4. go to your work skin. add in any css blocks you named in the html.

.tumblr {} .tumblr-post {} .tumblr-info {} .tumblr-body {} .tumblr-tags {} .tumblr-tag {}

5. look at the website. use inspect element and whatfont to get the information you need quickly. work from the top level as always; what is the most common font family and font size? add the border-radius for the overall tumblr block, if that suits your fancy, plus the background color, the padding, the margin. you can throw in a .tumblr { margin: 20px auto; } to center it and also add some innate separation from other blocks that will show up in the fic. quickly add in the basics, notably different font sizes + colors + families, and estimate padding and margin needs for all the "subclasses."

for any fake links, you'll probably have something that looks like .tumblr-tag:hover { cursor: pointer; text-decoration: underline; }

6. save your css skin. refresh your draft! the coding will have taken effect!

7. revise until you're happy with how One post looks. you might need to add in more classes that you didn't realize would need to be refined independently of their block. once you've gotten one post down, update the ao3 draft with all the posts incorporated. you're probably going to have to refine your padding choices—if, for example, .tumblr has padding: 20px but each post also has something like margin-bottom: 10px;, the spacing overlap at the very bottom of the parent block will be problematic. but once you have the base the refinement comes easily. it's just numbers!!!

8. if you have things you want to display side-by-side, create a flexbox. if you want to add photos, you can use .class:before { content: url("image.png") } with some position refinement. always remember to use max-width for a responsive, mobile-friendly experience, and test you work with the "reversi" ao3 skin (in the footer) to make sure your code works against a dark background. if you need to change the paragraph margins for a specific class, you can do that! .class p { whatever changes }. if you want to create ultra-nested replies but maintain the same base code for a reply, you can just add a second class to the html element: <div class="tumblr-reply nested">, where maybe .nested { margin-left: 40px; } pushes it just a bit further out.

that's all it is. you can make anything. the world is your oyster!

ok where were we. this is a review of recent concerts i've been to and preview of concerts i will soon be going to! very exciting. back in the day there were many concerts i wished to attend but could not because of travel difficulties and/or my general aversion to doing things alone at night... T__T it is hilarious to say these groups in the same sentence lol but i ended up not seeing either have a nice life or fifty fifty and i did kind of regret it both times... so now i am doing a better job of actually Going For Things and seeing artists i like and it's been really fun!

2. new age tomdaya
watched httyd la and my main takes were yes this is just theme park propaganda but also the casting is really so good and charming and i enjoyed nico parker as astrid greatly even if i can't believe she's a nepobaby whose dad wrote mamma mia sequel and whose mom is a decorated actor and whose sister just straight up created that terrible netflix show i couldn't stomach more than half an episode of and people simply let it happen. no offense to ripley parker of course, who is very young and understandably Very Woke. it's just a bad show

regardless i love to consume a piece of straight media from a beloved and established franchise with a deeply invested fanbase because it's always fun to witness the marketing behind the lead pair and how their chemistry manifests (for ex rach zegler flirting with her hunger games white man while her irl groomer bf third wheeled and then dumping him a year later). of course everyone is always trying to make Tomdaya Happen Again even though the whole point of tomdaya is that you can't create that kind of dynamic on a level that momentous probably ever again or at least not in this generation, because zendaya was an established disney baby and spider-man was nurtured in the bubble of peak mcu hype and tom is 5'7 and well anyway you just can't get that anymore. and also Jacob Elordi was there. unrelated but apparently kaia gerber is dating lewis pullman now which is so ewwwww gross get off of herrrr what the hell. however i did watch thunderbolts right before httyd and i thought yelena and bob were actually rather cute

anyway back to new age Accent-Swapped tomdaya which is what people are trying to make happen with mason and nico but the point is that you can't get that anymore because first of all tomdaya were hashtag donggaps. i watched this very educational 11-minute Cute Moments video that appropriately situated me and i feel like there's so much tinhet potential for future trilogy development but really right now she's just like Well this is a child who is asking me to play with the coloring books at the table next to him. imagine being romantic costar leads and you're continuously swapping between open flirting and gentle parenting... like ok gurl. and also Gerard Butler was there.

this is to say that i have no real investment in the lasting dynamics of this lead pairing but the existing vibes are quite interesting between the awkward negging, random paddington 2 souvenir gifting, the fact that he loves to call her a princess etc. etc. also he is apparently dating miss mckenna which i really cannotttt believe she's already 18... what da fock gifted was only in 2017. time isn't real

3. the girls who get it get it
i genuinely think it's so cursed that katseye fans have become so deeply entrenched in the anti-rps Boundaries Fallacy just because of katseye's authenticity marketing which is like yesss so true respect the 4th wall but there's this overwhelming messaging of like Any Kind Of Shipping Whatsoever Is Inherently Disrespectful when actually being chronically online is kind of just a choice and none of the members need to be making it if they don't want to. and manon is off partying with doja cat pre-shirt incident and the obama sisters i think it's going to be fine

like literally are you seeingggg this shit i think it's crazy that a group can be so gay and have such delicious and rich dynamics and people are either like 1. ermmm it's uncomfortable to Objectively Witness and Engage in these interactions being served up to us on a silver platter and/or 2. actually just actively homophobic which is a whole other can of worms. another thing about online fandom in 2025 is that many straight women are just passively homophobic and fruity sus whatever tiktok censorship verbiage culture is rotting our youths' brains etc etc where were we ?

yoonchae is literally one of the most interesting idols of all time because every day she gets on camera in her little glasses and is cosplaying 2015 timbs era femme jungkook and she's like developing stunning drop dead dyke face and no one is allowed to say ANYTHING about it. i can't get over how good yoonara dynamic is after ysl live because sophia tried so dutifully to raise her in her image but a laguardia baddie maxed out on charisma points swooped in and yoonchae literally just thinks she's sooo fun and cool and is discovering how to flirt with a girl for the very first time. she's like it's just jokes but also why don't u want to kiss me. but also whatever i don't care. omgggg why am i so crazy today

i literally loveeee katseye lineup so much they're like the most perfect girl group ever because they're PERFORMERS who love to PERFORM and the members complement one another perfectly the only problem is that their album design direction is terrible and their music is consistently mid. of course gnarly is the perfect workout song and boba tea GNARLY etc. and i will give alice longyu gao her flowers for offloading her camp hyperpop demo to the first bidder but like the complete ballad middery of mean girls highlight preview 😭 gabriela being Aggressively Heterosexual Anthem with a lackluster beat and nothingburger lyrics. not that it really matters functionally i just think they deserve everything and more as a group

but really the beauty of it is that like....... yoonchae is just a baby lesbian being nurtured by the most insane bisexual women of all time. sophia is a well-meaning ally constricted by the walls of her persona and struggling to shed her layers as effectively as the other members. megan is the biggest victim of momagership it's a miracle she's emotionally adjusted whatsoever but somehow she channeled her awkward homeschooler energy into being a roblox gayby and makes it Work. lara is like......... honestly in many ways the emotional core of the group because she's so COOL and assured in a way that's actually very concerted because she's literally 19 and no 19 year old is just like that without some level of concentrated will and self-reflection, but again that's why it works. because she's kind of just a normalguy beneath the surface but she channels so much commitment into her styling that everyone is like ohhhhhh ok do you want to be my toxic bisexual dj producer boyfriend. and then daniela is sort of disconcerted because she's a bit lesbophobic but she also gets fomo really bad so she's like HEY let me in there... i wanna be part of your world. but also not too much inside the world... i just want a nice breezy window view. The Gays and Daniela if that's not too much to ask for

i think it's beautiful... i honestly just love yoonchae so much. also cannotttt stop thinking about chanelle singlehandedly getting fifi back onto the melon charts by being the group's token masc. THANK GOD
