i've been meaning to make this list for a long time (since last year or maybe even late 2020...???) but i'm finally doing it now :3c i made an attempt to organize this into a fairly comprehensive post with lots of reflections + notes, which means that the tiers kind of start with my favs but might also include stuff i don't necessarily personally enjoy that much but still think deserves to be included in its parent category.
more background: i really love tingle interview and have seen like 1480314 of them for artists i otherwise know nothing about, but i especially love discovering idols who have asmr content outside of tingle!!! (or Even better who don't use a 3dio...) my "roots" in asmr go pretty far back at this point (i got into it properly around 2014-2015, so the lo-fi ~old school style~ was phasing out but i still liked a lot of creators who weren't within the realm of gibistyle twitch streamer roleplays or asmr bakery no talking 4-hour 2160p 4k trigger comps... and i say this as someone subscribed to both of them [yes i'm oppressed for being gibi oldschool fan who waits for her to do "simple" trigger videos once every 2 months ;__;])! ummm where was i.

things to know:
- β i don't like eating asmr T__T
β imo some idols aren't good at asmr even when they get high-quality production because (other than sheer lack of experience) no one is editing the videos properly!!! i'll talk about this more later but companies often prioritize entertainment value/fan content over sound set-up and idols never really do triggers long enough so that's a minus. also with the way tingle interview is set up it can basically never be more than what it is (expository interview with annoying bg music structured around bare minimum asmr fanservice) so watching it is more an act of vaguely identifying Potential in random people... if that makes sense.
β i like whispered asmr the most!!! soft-spoken can be ok if it's properly alternated with whispering (felixsmr is rly endearing for how distinct his soft spoken english and whispered korean r) and then no-talking just bores me... i admire people who work hard to capture different item sounds (asmr bakery, coromo sara, etc.) but my favorite will always be people who also optimize their voice and speech habits and do hand or tapping triggers simultaneously. my favorite asmrtist before she got married and quit youtube had a very casual "rambles about her day" style and i'm very attached to people who are personable enough to help me enjoy that kind of content TT but also k-asmr has its own specific trends so i try to evaluate idols along those lines as well
β mic quality and bg noise are very important to me T___T for ex felix's 1st tingle interview is awful because it has the worst white noise even though i think he's a good asmrdol overall!!!! idol asmr is really 80% about how the mic is set up....

um of course the queen herself. who else could i start with!!! rohjisun literally carried the fromis9 youtube channel on her back until 2022 hybe unfloppification she is braver than any us marine TT___TT out of the 4 idols i consider to be part of this tier, i think jisun is the only one i can Really and Truly call an "asmrtist" with confidence. i think it's clear in the way she conducts herselfβshe's purposeful with her triggers and is focused on making asmr videos over making fan content with secondary asmr qualitiesβbut she's also great at keeping up with trends + understanding the existence of triggers in general. her videos also have great editing (i looked this up to confirm who's in charge of editing (you never know with nugus...) and found a tweet about the editor who does her videos always getting sleepy working on them HAHA... cute) and i like that she has her own animation intro and that her videos are fairly low brightness. another issue with k-pop idols is that they don't really have the luxury of filming at 3am in their bedroom or in a soundproof studio or whatever (miss dana...) so a lot of times background noise from random staff members or idols in other rooms filters through. you can hear that at points in jisun's which is really just life but overall her sound quality is really consistent compared to most idols i've listened to!! *___* and it's cool that she uses both her 3dio and blue yeti :) i don't like ear scratching that much but i rly like this video + one of her older mouth sounds ones... however i'm trying to be conscious of any asmr skeptics who might be turned off by specific mouth sounds so i went for this LOL. you can access jisun's full asmr playlist HERE.

i honestly respect yeowon soooo much *___* i also wanted to put his "inaudible" (unintelligible) whispering video but since it's mouth sound heavy i'll just put the first video i heard from him instead. i don't think it's lifechanging but i remember taking an accidental nap listening to it so there's that LOL. even though yeowon isn't as competent as jisun, you can tell that he's very serious about asmr and has a trendy/adaptive style that other idols either lack or don't have the chance to pursue. imo the winning combination for asmrdols is really just ~Idol Who Genuinely Likes ASMR + Medium-Big Company~ because if the company is too big or if the group is too well-performing (not saying kq is big but ateez r clearly selling better than ptg and are the main breadwinners) they're more likely to make their asmr visually focused fan "content," e.g. felix stayfm seonghwa mars asmr jeno jsmr etc. (well jeno has a decent setup he's just goofy) anyway this video is cute too because i luv finger fluttering β€οΈ and i think he has a rly nice whispering voice! let's walk da flower path miss changgu....

the grip this video had on me for like 3 months OMFG. it's clear that seonghwa is pretty sincere about asmr as well (at least from the lore i've consumed 8__8 i have another soy video coming up soon, but you can watch his and wooyoung's collab with his favorite asmrtist here!) i don't think his stuff is that good / some of the mars asmr concepts are SO goofy / he's really more a listener than a creator, but i looove this video so much i don't even know how to get into it. i think i've seen it like 15 times hldkasfhlgh like why did i basically memorize this video so extensively i nearly got into ateez through seongjoong... it didn't work but now i have useless knowledge about their hobbies i guess. we goopals β€οΈ

these episodes releasing were literally the peak of my "stay"isms and then i forgot skz existed a week later. (in my defense i think i actually know all of the members now...) but anyway episode 1 is still my favorite!!! β€οΈ felix has such a deep voice so he does a lot of soft spoken which can be off-putting to me at times but i think he makes it work (esp because his korean is more whispered than his english so there's a nice contrast effect). i think jyp is like so annoying sometimes OMG because this and the twice asmr interviews are kind of questionably set up... actually i can't even mention the twice ones at all because they have the wooorstttt background noise so they're not listenable to me at ALL :/ at least stayfm has ok sound but i just wish it were paced better / were longer T__T but the best part of this video is just this 1-minute interlude where he does cork/wood tapping and some hand sounds.... PERFECT!!!! if you want to listen to a pretty good no talking trigger edit of the stayfm series you can watch that here π
tier ii. we are clearly nugus who can't afford any other variety content but our managers were willing to put us in a room with a cheap mic setup pilfered from the recording studio and 8 dollars worth of slime ordered off a 12-year-old on instagram so we could keep Twitter User Asmrdol and our 3 fans entertained β²

12k views... that's basically viral for dongkiz π idk why i was lowk obsessed with his Three (3) asmr videos for a hot sec (the other members have done some too but umm i have jaechan tunnel vision >>) but i legit fell asleep to these for an entire week and then was like OK NOW I'M NORMAL!!! he has a nice whispering voice and i like that he just kind of talks about whatever which makes his content more charming. but maybe i'm just jaech gaeinpaen...... 1 month until μμλ¬ btw β€οΈ nothing keeps me young like the webtoon k-fans cursing it out in the qrts β€οΈ also if you want another nugudol slime asmr vid there's this DOAH LOG where she's clearly just like sitting on her bed. idek

i'm kind of meh on handwriting sounds but i rly like her voice and overall energy!!! so cute TT___TT and i don't want to repeat groups in the tingle interview section so i also rly like lena in the gwsn tingle interview... also if you happen to like handwriting asmr then there's also dreamnote's lara & boni and woo!ah!'s minseo because idk if i want to embed them separately >__<

why did going through the asmr punch playlist remind me that rcpc are lowk a perfect group OMFG... remember when yeonhee cried because she was a tragic dolphin in her past life π anyway i was debating between yunkyoung's makeup one because i really like lo-fi lipstick application (one of my fav videos is this super oldschool dana one she did with her iphone mic on her side account T__T) but she's so goooofyyyy i think yeonhee's is the most promising. i also enjoy this dual mic setup like why was her inflatable pillow kind of giving cardi with the rug during w mag LOL.

even though the background noise is annoying at first this is surprisingly decent and just a fun ramble video *__* also compared to the other idols in this tier idk whether ace really qualifies as nugu but since jun starred in a horrible feudal era bl so they're probably not Thriving. idk any of the other guys though sorry HAHA (apparently donghun is in the military rn) but i like his whispering here π ace has a lot of asmr videos but the rest are mostly eating/lyric reading so they're not rly my style :/ ONLY TWO (2) PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO DO SONG LYRIC ASMR AND WE'LL GET TO THEM LAST!!!

(w/ Soy ASMR) THE CUUUUTEST MFING VIDEO TT____TT the intro is a bit unbalanced but once she starts teaching them stuff it gets rly good... this is half asmr half entertainment but it's genuinely SO endearing and i honestly rly like soy and how she engages her collaborators π₯Ί like the seonghwa one felt mildly awk at parts because it was her first time + seonghwa was all #fanboy mode but i feel like she refined her k-pop content selection after getting feedback from her atz video. i was literally so healed after i watched this and i had a 5-minute seunghyub moment it was crazy. jaehyun is the funniest by far but i think seunghyub's lil fast asmr serve is toooo cute β€οΈ ok U Get It.

an absolute classic.... like seriously just one of the most thoughtful asmr videos put out by a solo artist with no real attachment to the genre and i really respect her for it! i'm not particularly obsessed with iusmr Skillwise or re: any particular triggers but i really admire her consistency and the length of the video and the way it's edited/presented!!! like yes i had to cave and install a dark overlay app just because i suffer so much watching select asmr videos at 3am even with my 1 bar of brightness T__T it's really nice to see the effort put into this one β€οΈ

okay I KNOW I SAID ONLY TWO (2) PEOPLE CAN DO SONG LYRIC ASMR BUT... this one is kind of cute. if you like eating sounds you can also check out her candy eating video, it's still a bit too strong for me but i tend to find that jelly sounds aren't as bad as like... fried chicken.... (doesn't understand how anyone listens to loud mukbang asmr!!! T__T) suhyun's stuff is kind of hit or miss for me but i appreciate her dedication to the genre i lowk miss her asmr phase hahaha

back when i first wanted to make this post i started up a whole notion spreadsheet reviewing and analyzing Every Tingle Interview I Watched π i missed a few that i had seen beforehand and also lost steam eventually but i had a VERY SERIOUS RATING SCALE!!! (βοΈ = [8.0+] / π = [7.0 - 7.9] / π = [6.0 - 6.9], each idol was rated individually and the episode rating was averaged from the 2) so anyway i have a few reference points but i haven't watched most of these in a while.

i seriously have beef with the way m2 chooses idols for its tingle interviews because this video was such a revelation for HYUNJAESMR and then sunwoo was just frustratingly inconsistent π i gave sunwoo 6.7/10 and hyunjae 8.3/10, the latter being the highest score of the ones i watched while i was maintaining the spreadsheet... i literally never think about this man but he has really good asmr sense so i was impressed!

same issue re: idol choices because jeno was surprisingly good and i don't believe that any jsmr videos are very well-made (because of how stupid they all are) but then jaemin is like. THEEEE. THEEEEEEEEEEEEE worst idol i've EVER. EVERRRRRRRRR. EVERRRRRRRRR SEEN ON TINGLE INTERVIEW π (my notes: - Informative?: Not very educational from a stanning perspective but good look into their established dynamic / - Jaemin at 20:50 speaking in the loudest voice ever... well this is the editors' fault for not cutting it out but he's just generally not very good, stops whispering all the time, laughs way too loudly, doesn't understand ASMR) (jeno 8.2 jaemin 5.8) anyway. it's cute i guess

i watched this before i started my notetaking activities so i don't have a rating! but they're both super consistent and endearing in this video and i reallyyyyy like minju's voice >___< also minju being like my manager just lied about my height i'm actually SHORT!!! SHE'S SO CUTE TT___TT 163.8 bebe........ also when yuri's eyelash gets stuck and they're just giggling fixing it and minju's all like >__< haha ummm sowwy don't look at us THEY'RE SO GOOFY BUT IN THE CUTEST WAY POSSIBLE! and minju mic brushing sense is good too β€οΈ sometimes i feel bad for idols because it really is that how stupid you look during your individual trigger segment depends on how risquΓ© your given item is... what are you supposed to do when they hand you the weirdest looking slime. β hyunsuk (cix): remember when i momentarily declared baejin my enemy because of how bad he was in this i was like if this mfer DOESN'T STOP TALKING!!!! but yoonhyunsuk is soooo perfect here... genuinely a classic to end all classics. i unironically believe that ice chu is a perfect song but the fact that this has 10x more views than the actual mv will never fail to crack me up π honestly i think that idol asmr would have taken longer to truly take off if it hadn't been for this video and its unintentional virality... or rather there are a lot of considerations here and i'm kind of talking out of my ass because the whole asmrlive playlist idea was m2's whole pre-tingle interview workshop to capitalize off k-asmr success but this was the only one that was ever really any good in an era where basically NO idol was taking asmr that seriously. tingle interview is still so goofy half the time but jisun/yeowon/etc. make me believe that there is potential out there!!!
ok that's it for this post. tbh idk why i wrote all of this because it's literally only for myself LOL.... i know that i'm the only person who gives a fuck about asmr!!! π but i had fun writing this and dreamwidth is all about making indulgent content for yourself at 1am n__n good nighttt.
