top (100) k-pop songs 2022

some of you may remember that last year i wrote two music posts for my 2021 reflections, aka top (80) songs 2021 and top (70) k-pop songs 2021! i wanted to keep the tradition going with a quick k-pop playlist for 2022 but also... honestly i don't know how i ever managed to cook up so much formatting last year LMFAO and considering that my dwposting capacity has diminished severely over the past few months i fear this post will be a lot more barebones and essentially a simple presentation of a very subjective and personal ranking, entirely for the sake of documentation. all right. sorry about that i guess. but let's get into it!

i think my general plan is to stretch my yearly reflection content across the following four posts:

1. ✅ k-pop songs 2022
2. 🔜 (non k-pop) albums 2022
3. 🔜 yearly "content creation" roundup
4. 🔜 yearly media consumption roundup

and if possible i'd like to put a little bit more effort into formatting my media consumption roundup since i already have the post from last year to refer back to... maybe also my albums post if i ever finish that because i frankly listen to a lot more music that isn't k-pop so it's a slightly more relevant reflection of my yearly music consumption lol. but we'll see!

⚠️ NOTES

this playlist is mostly populated by k-pop groups and solo artists, although i got a little lazy in my categorization and sneaked in a few indie artists who don't exactly fit the k-pop moniker... i'm sure you can understand. my methodology for this playlist also called that i only pick ONE (1) song per album/release, which means artists can only be repeated if they have multiple releases for the year. but i've also marked down the "runner-up" songs for any release where i was very torn on which one to pick over the other so that will be reflected in the list!!! this also means that for example my "10th song" in the playlist might not necessarily be the True 10th song because i self-censored a song from a repeat album but that's all negligible enough....

truly though 2022 was weird because like, nothing in k-pop fully gripped me this year but in the end i did enjoy keeping up with new releases as best i could and i still did my best to explore nugumusic and give all the albums i remembered to listen to a shot, although it'll be obvious enough once you see the list that i didn't push the mold of what i usually enjoy at all and just got very comfortable consuming largely similar permutations of ggpop. i think this was just a great year for gg comebacks and debuts in general but it's a shame that i struggled a lot to connect with basically → [any male group release that wasn't from infinite's sons reincarnate ROAD-B]

there's also the fact that i spent this year slowly phasing out of active k-pop fandom so a lot of my listening patterns have become more scattered and more about just enjoying musical releases independent of any real group attachment... anyway. my taste isn't good but that's not the prerequisite for posting things on dreamwidth so who cares!

3. i once agan have a song called "la luna" around the top 30 (weeekly, #29 → ichillin', #31)
4. 3 different female solos on my 2022 list released a track called satellite (suzy, bébe yana, youha)
5. in 2021, my top 20 songs were only 55% female; this year the ratio came in at 85% (17/20)
6. of my artists in 2021's top 20, 50% (10/20) aren't in this year's top 100 at all

i feel the same in that nothing was as gripping this year as it felt last year!!!! though i suppose it could also be the fact that we weren't as attached to kpop fandom for most of the year... but damn ditto really GOT you in the last month. i'm glad road-b are in the top 10 i love their 2 songs probably way too much. i feel that nine.i COULD be higher as well but that may be the bias talking. but i love love dive and done so much i'm glad those are in your top 5 too...!!!!! ty for writing i always appreciate your lists<3

fifty fifty lovin' me is SOOO good i think im really obsessed with it because the vocals kind of remind me of limesoda's wave which i missed mixed with bad friend by rina...

i totally relate to the feeling of kind of phasing out of kpop [fandom], i find that these days my listening also corresponds with how many active hours i spend keeping up with groups/news which is interesting. now i have no idea what is going on in the kpop world at all and i don't listen to much either.
