anyone else think life is cringe and then u die? my july was actually so questionable but i'm writing this up super quickly in the name of self-reflection so i can go get actually productive things done.... ๐ let's get into it!

movie watch count 22 new, 0 rewatches
yes yes i don't watch movies anymore T___T buut while i'm still very averse to going out leisurely i did end up watching black widow in theaters like a loser and it was ultimately nice to meet up with a friend and watch together! a marvel movie is still a marvel movie but i enjoyed miss pugh's performance and the overall experience. maybe at some point in august i'll get to a few "good" movies on my watchlist or something ๐
in my june roundup i was like ??? "lol i'm not watching tv anymore" but now i have 123480234 ongoing shows for no reason!! and i don't even know how it happened!! a few are old (like love victor/ipytm which i just need to sit down and finish but can't bring myself to for no discernible reason)... but yeah i watched/started so many random tv shows this month? i'm currently watching some apple tv stuff and started a love so beautiful (og) thanks to
permutative, which i'm only a few episodes in but am sooo endeared by and will continue asap T___T i think my unhinged hongri tinhettery was mildly exacerbated by watching this LOL seriously but no regrets. but yeah idk i'm just stuck on a few shows like seriously i need to finish adventure time soon x__x i'm still on s8 but i definitely want to get to the end and watch distant lands before the year is over!! i say this all the time but I CANNOT BELIEVE i've been doing my at watch since early 2020 and i'm STILL not done... ๐ญ and re: other cartoons i also need to watch the owl house s2 at some point! i did start ep1 and then was like "eh..." and forgot about it but i'll def get to it soon. i think the problem is honestly that i HATE hulu's interface so that's why i've been hedging on finishing this and love victor for so long lolol give me a few months ok TT

i wrote about these in a post here, but these were seriously such highlights of the month for me!!! i guess i'll talk about my yr consumption more in the fic section but these were all super solid and after i (finally!) watched druck s6 i joined tori on her s3 watch so i rewatched that for like the 182348234th time. honestly cannot believe i was this into davenzi a year ago which feels mildly (extremely) embarrassing with some distance but i still felt so much like why are episodes 9-10 just perfect television i literally cried!!!! also my unhinged rewatch reminded me of this old video edit i made during my hyperfixation era and idk why it still makes me a little bit emotional now :__) anyone else think davenzi was literally that serious?? i know places we can go anyone????
also i watched s5 of kim's convenience because it's a family watching affair but T___T well i have nothing to say. i mean i have a lot to say but what point is there in saying it! it was bad though. and speaking of netflix offerings i also watched never have i ever s2 (btw why was everyone letting me abbreviate this as nhiv before i realized that "ever" does in fact start with an e and it should be nhie... ๐ญ I'VE NEVER CLAIMED TO HAVE A FUNCTIONING BRAIN PLEASE HELP ME OUT THERE!!!) and it was definitely a frustrating watch but there was good to it too and i think it got stronger after the halfway point... but mannn i experienced so much and not all of it was particularly positive. that being said who else thinks that

but uh other than that why were my fic reading habits seriously soo questionable this month!! screamsadfkhhglh once again i don't have ao3 reading history on so i can't do a full crawl and have to rely on my shoddy memory but why would anyone ever have an eggs one and pentagon phase IN THE SAME MONTH!?!?! honestly saying that i had an eggs one phase is extremely generous because while i sure read copious amounts of seungseok fic for no reason at the start of july without being asked to that was about it... but i don't even know why i did that like i really exhausted those archives and then was like all right i think i've read through all the mildly socially acceptable content back to NOT READING. ptg meanwhile was the opposite experience where i wanted to find fic after having an actual Fan Moment but i couldn't find anything good outside of a few rare gems here and there ๐ also why are half of the good fics orphaned like what happened 2 this icon???
i want to be a person who can read fic again but i'd rather be a person who can read real books again so um T__T it's fine i'm illiterate etc.!

if you're wondering why i listened to so much music this month it's because i have insomnia and sleep at 6am every night LOL. i will reflect and return with a better image. anyway i barely listened to k-pop in july because of the olympics-time drought, but i still had a fun time checking out the few releases we did have and a variety of other stuff!! although i have to say i'm super excited for the august cb wave but i'll talk about it more in the variety section <333๐งฎ STATS

so much to talk about even though nothing i say ever makes sense!!! anyway let me get into some releases first... re: the 0.2 k-pop releases this month, i liked |believer| a lot from sf9's new ep (which is otherwise bad) and then i looked it up and was like oh it's their KINGDOM SONG... ๐ญ (<- guy who did not watch kingdom.) whistle from the new dc ep is really good btw! and i also did a pentagon discography crawl this month after some unintentional unibus conversion antics and well half of their discography is kind of awful but it was pretty fun otherwise and i really enjoy their round 1/2 songs WAY more than i should... and i suddenly became obsessed with shine (jp ver.) mv for no reason T__T yhs kind of looks good in it but don't text
re: western album releases, i listened to lyww vol.3 and then went to revisit the whole series and like... (sob) well i liked it but vol.2 is just sooo polished idt anything can top it! but tkay maidza is seriously so impressive to me and i love her sound no matter what <3 also sorry for the terminally online groupthink but i want to say that i HATE JANTONOFF NOW. i saw someone be all like "you guys will say you hate jack antonoff and then call nfr lana's best album :/" which like... Yeah. that's literally EXACTLY IT! why is dozing off at the nail salon actually the most offensive derivation of an nfr track ever like the whole point of lorde is that she doesn't have to swoop to ldr's lows. i'm so sorry. anyway i tried way too hard to enjoy sling but what's the point of forcing yourself through a clairo sophomore album a second time if it's not clicking ๐

back 2 my top lists... i said i'd continue being obsessed with parannoul during my june round-up and that ended up proving true throughout the entire month TT shoutout to
soobun for getting me on san fermin and then trying to listen to this even though we both knew she would hate it. ur the only person ever <333 but anyway why am i so obsessed with this album! like we know why and i never shut up about it but also why am i obsessed with this album you know!!?? there's really nothing more touching to me than the self-indulgence of purely miserable music... like i keep streaming ์ด์ฅํ - vol.1 on youtube because i'm too lazy to rip it for offline spotify and every time i let it play it honestly changes my life. also [2] i love spool's shoegaze sound so much i'm surprised they don't have more listeners! i really like their eponymous album SPOOL but this more recent track is so good 2 me as well :D
this song is so perfect too btw!!!! sorry for the most random embeds but i'm sooo obsessed with ์ด๋'s voice rn T___T this and the manami kakudo version are both really good but i prefer the choir just a little bit more. just had the thought of playing this back-to-back with ๋์ and honest 2 god ascended to another dimension i think.

as i always say: every group needs the 5โ4 main vocalist hag king, the sloth from zootopia who makes more money than the rest of the group combined, kim yerim's malewife infamous for calling parkbogum fug, some guy named "shinwon", a perfect boring angel visual who serves absolutely nothing, the guy whose only claim to relevance is saying MY BABY in their breakout hit from 2017 that didnโt actually break them out because their most popular member immediately left the company to openly date hyuna and dungeoned them so bad they had to go flop on road to kingdom to entertain the public masses, ์ ํ ๋ค, og minhee with depths so hidden no iceberg meme could appropriately encapsulate them, and finally an anatomically accurate oscar wilde x slenderman lovechild. yup we unibuses <3 honestly i can't imagine myself caring about this group in a sustained capacity but i'm just amazed at how much variety content they have and how many purely fun 20-30 minute offerings are present on their official youtube channel! do you know the amount of stupid little useless 5-minute videos i watch for DRIPPIN because woollim hates them??? pentagon are amazing for being genuinely funny people this is kind of a p1fth harmony moment for me i think โค๏ธ
which speaking of p1fth harmony i'm literally obsessed with them again <3 i can't get over how serendipitous their shine cover was because first of all it's THE PERFECT SONG CHOICE FOR THEM and their vocal tones T___T like keetheo doing kinongseok's parts rearranged my entire brain chemistry and then i kept rewatching that cover / their dance cover / shine jp ver. mv over and over again like something truly took hold of my brain for a few days there... and soul_my_baby.mp3 is so endearing TT maybe i'm p1ece. also i'm still seriously obsessed with saessak harmony and how naturally funny they are... it's so freaking sad that they only do one episode every 2 weeks because fishcake has 0 budget and they use the fugliest video filters but they miraculously keep the tension going anyway!!! and whenever keeho goes on vlive and is like Umm can u guys stop solostanning me :/ My other members work so hard :/ i'm like bro do not worry your humor is definitely not the reason i like your stupid little group. yes you're going to the beach beach etc. and you go viral for calling theo a stupid whore but chwetaeyang is the most endearing man here and i only mildly care about you because you can sing. if i tell you your little needy cover was cute will you plagiarize good music for your next album?
anyway july was overall kind of boring since all of my groups are coming back in august. i'm so sad vitypark ended on a kind of boring note but it's still the only variety show ever and the only thing that's sustaining me in its absence is the fact that my three favorite boy groups are basically coming back on the same day??? (my priority list is txt > cravity > cix = enhypen > drippin > ab6ix btw but ipeks might get the #6 spot soon ๐ง) honestly i have So Many Thoughts and kind of some manifestations but i don't want to mention them here lest i jinx them!!! also i just think the release dates are so wild like umm idk... i have no personal attachment to k-pop consumerism anymore so i don't care about the minutiae of k-pop sales but for nugu groups stuff like the show wins actually matter and the fact that cixvity are dropping tuesday and cravity is dropping THURSDAY is SO???? well cixvity are never going to win the show now because of txt and then thursday is like the worst drop day ever and they should have just done the next monday because skz don't go on the show anyway. also depending on who else is promoting at the time i don't think we'll get mubank interviews for all 3 groups (actually i'm 100% sure since tbz will prob reach like 400k hanteo thanks to kingdom clout and definitely get nominated) so now it's all a matter of like... would i rather see soobin POTENTIALLY in the same room as seongmin or do i want weird soobseung lore again??? actually an impossible choice u__u also cixvity will hurt mubank chances for txt but i'm not that stressed about it now that soobin isn't leaving yet lol ๐

yup i also wrote the worst young royals post-canon drabble ever for no reason but um @#$*)$ i don't know i do think i made peace with my fic writing habits this month... i talked about my writing process a little bit here and how i only write in sporadic bursts these days, but idt expecting things of my writing benefits me or anyone else because it's purely a useless "hobby" detached from any fandom obligation. honestly i feel like even hobby is too strong of word like it's just an Activity That Happens. and that's ok :__) anyway the hongri was sooo self-indulgent and just like embarrassingly cobbled together which is why i ended up locking it but maybe i'll unlock it at some point when i've put distance between it and it's not at the top of my dw page LOL. like it's not THAT embarrassing to write terrible clichรฉd tropey college aus but... well it definitely is.

i was right last month that i definitely wouldn't have enough time to draw anything and i most certainly Did Not Draw Anything. unless u count making rudimentary shapes in illustrator :__)but well speaking of illustrator / on a design note: shameless promo time but please consider checking out all the works from our little fic fest!!! not to talk about my design process for this in my stupid media round-up post but i truly did put a lot of effort into the gfx and making the best template i could even if ik i'm lacking a lottt T___T ik these look mid but it took me a lot of trial and error to work essentially from scratch and i do want to help promote people's work + promote good fest culture as best as i can ๐ constantly endeavoring to return with a better image even if i don't really have the skillset 2!!! ok end unnecessarily sincere moment.

Date: 2021-08-09 10:32 am (UTC)and never have i ever is likeeee... u need to have a high tolerance for Bullshit to watch it. and u need to be able to suspend disbelief that this 30 year old man is a high schooler and accept that he's literally the weakest link of the entire show but they still spend way too much time trying to redeem his character for some reason. And u need to understand that they're trying to get at how teenage girls can be unlikable and mean and useless and how grief and trauma informs your response to stressful situations and on some level it works? But it's also a mindy kaling diaspora_kid production and it doesn't always work. But also some of the side characters are so likable and strong and i think the second half of s2 is like...? IT HAS ITS COMPLEXITY? i don't know. it's not AMAZING television and it's sooo cringe and embarrassing at some points but i think it has heart. MAYBE!!!! let me know if you try watching it <3
